Dana
Summary
Dana is a player in this Dungeon World campaign who controls the character Vasso (also referred to as Sucks or Vasso in the transcript). Dana works in what appears to be a medical or pharmaceutical-related field, mentioning co-workers like Coco during out-of-character conversation about vaccine distribution. During Session 2, Dana demonstrates knowledge of COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness and variant concerns in meta-game discussion with the group.
Playing Style
Dana engages actively in both tactical planning and character roleplay throughout Session 2. Dana participates in the investigation of Dunko's quarters, working with the other players to coordinate the party's approach. Dana's roleplay incorporates physical comedy and instinctual behavior, particularly when portraying Vasso's bird-like actions during the geese encounter, describing how the character spreads a large wingspan and uses "leg little boy hands" to grab the birds' necks.
Dana shows strong engagement with moral consequences and emotional fallout from in-game actions. After Vasso kills two of The Geese in Dunko's Apartment, Dana roleplays the character's guilt and panic when Katniss suggests they might be pets, having Vasso mutter apologies and express remorse. Dana also contributes to out-of-character discussion about topics like business degrees and medical practices, demonstrating collaborative table dynamics.
Dana's mechanical engagement appears enthusiastic but sometimes unlucky. During the cultist encounter at the Rex Tree, Dana attempts to use Discern Realities to identify if the cultists are related to Vasso's religious family but rolls critically poorly (snake eyes, double twos), resulting in Vasso falling partway through a gap and accidentally revealing the party. Despite the mechanical failure, Dana responds with good humor, calling it "the best" and expressing excitement about potentially befriending the cultists and joining their "team."
History
Session 2
Dana begins the session engaged in out-of-character discussion about COVID-19 vaccine distribution, recalling workplace conversations with a co-worker named Coco about vaccine trial sign-ups and explaining that single-shot vaccines are not fully effective.
When the party investigates Dunko Guzman's apartment, Dana actively participates in planning, stating: "But now we have to go up to this dude's bedroom, I guess, to like, look around and investigate." Dana roleplays Vasso approaching the task with a sense of duty.
During the encounter with The Geese in Dunko's Apartments, Dana has Vasso aid Sucks (there appears to be character name confusion in the transcript) by using the character's wingspan to corral the birds. Dana describes the action: "I go into the room and I spread myself really, really far. So my wingspan is quite big. And then I just, like, run towards the geese, trying to grab their necks with my leg. Little boy hands." Dana roleplays Vasso's predatory instincts kicking in, explaining: "Vaso will absolutely help you because this is instinctual for dinner because this is, like his upbringing right there."
After killing two geese, Dana engages deeply with the moral consequences when the party realizes they might be pets. Dana has Vasso express guilt: "Yeah, Vasso had a hard life lesson, and he feels real guilty, and he's kind of just, like, muttering and saying, like, I'm so sorry." Dana also questions the decision out-of-character: "I'm starting to think that I made a bad decision."
Later in the session, Dana makes narrative contributions during the discovery of the man-face artifact, having Vasso carefully wrap it in a handkerchief and create a "bindle" to carry it. Dana describes Vasso displaying the face so "it looks like it's sleeping" and collecting acorns "for bread later."
At The Rex Tree, Dana attempts to use Vasso's religious background to investigate, approaching the tree "in a weird religious y way" and trying to commune spiritually. When the cultists appear, Dana has Vasso squint and stare to see if any long-lost family members are present, explaining: "they're clearly celebrating, like, a harvest. This is totally like my family."
Dana's Discern Realities roll produces snake eyes (two twos), a critical failure that results in Vasso falling through a gap and triggering the trap door mechanism that seals the party in darkness beneath the tree. Despite the setback, Dana responds with enthusiasm about the cultist encounter and expresses interest in befriending them, demonstrating resilient engagement with consequences.
