Safia Negotiates Freedom for the Pigs

Summary

In Session 2 of the campaign, while the rest of the investigation team dealt with geese inside Dunko Guzman's apartment, Safia remained outside and negotiated with the rental pigs to extract intelligence about Dunko Guzman's operations. Safia approached Mayor, the leader of the pigs, and offered freedom in exchange for information about the Pinecone Restaurant and Spa. Mayor revealed that Dunko Guzman ran a smuggling operation where people dropped off bags they wanted hidden, which Dunko Guzman would later give to other people. The negotiation required a Parlay roll, which Safia succeeded at partially (7 on 2d6+charisma), resulting in Mayor demanding immediate freedom for all the pigs. Despite knowing this would upset her party—particularly Abdul/Sucks who threatened to "stop loving" her—Safia agreed to the terms and let the pigs go free.

Details

During the investigation, Safia stayed outside Dunko Guzman's apartment with the rental pigs while Erin and others entered to search for clues. Safia approached Mayor, the pig leader, asking about the Pinecone Restaurant and Spa. Mayor confirmed he'd been around Rex Tree for a long time and knew much, but immediately demanded to know what was in it for him. When Safia suggested the pigs might prefer freedom over returning to the rental shop, Mayor responded enthusiastically but insisted on concrete assurance.

Mayor then revealed critical intelligence: "Maybe some people show up once in a while with bags full of shit that know that they don't want anybody else to see. Maybe Gooseman takes some of those bags." He explained that Dunko Guzman operated a smuggling service where people dropped off bags for safekeeping, which Dunko Guzman later distributed to other people. The pigs found the bags appealing because they smelled good.

Safia rolled a Parlay (2d6+charisma) and achieved a 7, a partial success. Mayor seized the opportunity to demand the pigs be allowed to leave immediately: "All right, maybe I can help you out. But if you're offering us freedom, maybe you just turn a blind eye to what happens right now." He clarified his position by stating, "I got all the friends I need right here with my other pigs."

Before Safia could finalize the agreement, Abdul/Sucks warned her: "If you lose our pigs, I'll stop loving you." Safia acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, stating "I mean, I just totally disagree with this whole pig rental anyways," and reflecting that "I think that I'll. I'll have to just. I'll have to smooth it over. Sucks about the other one, but you may not have got that back anyway."

Fitgerald returned Sucks' Kate Bush mini disc player by shaking his head to drop it. The pigs then began wandering toward Rex Tree, with Monster sitting atop Carl. Safia's decision was informed by her cultural background, where pigs were treated as intelligent equals with their own areas to roam.
