Summary

Mayor is an intelligent pig named after John Mayer who serves as the leader and spokesperson for the Pigs encountered by the party during their "test drive" in Session 2 of the campaign. Mayor demonstrates his leadership role and negotiating skills when Safia approaches the pigs for information about Dunko Guzman's activities at the Pinecone Restaurant and Spa. The pig has formed a particular bond with Monster the cat and positions himself as the go-to source for information among the pigs around Rex Tree.

Mayor proves instrumental in revealing the smuggling operation at the Pinecone, disclosing that Dunko Guzman uses the restaurant as a front for moving bags containing items like endive late at night. Mayor's information comes at a price — he successfully negotiates freedom for himself and all the other pigs, insisting on concrete assurance rather than mere promises before sharing what he knows. After gaining freedom, Mayor continues traveling with the party and demonstrates impressive survival skills, successfully foraging in the forest while the party is trapped underground.

Appearance

Mayor is a monstrous pig, though no specific physical features beyond his porcine nature are documented. His most distinctive characteristic is vocal rather than visual: everything Mayor says must be sung, accompanied by guitar. The pig has a tendency to nearly bite people's hands when accepting food — he almost bites Safia's hand when she offers him an acorn.

History

Session 2

Mayor emerges as the spokesman for the pigs when Safia approaches them outside the Pinecone Restaurant and Spa during the investigation. He introduces himself with a confident, musical demeanor, presenting himself as someone who has "been around these parts for a long time" and establishing his role as the pig everyone comes to when they need to know things about pigs.

Mayor immediately frames the conversation as a negotiation, stating: "I'd really love to help you but you know, just like any other self respecting pig, I got to wonder what's in it for me, you know?" When Safia offers freedom, Mayor pushes for immediate, concrete action rather than promises: "All right, maybe I can help you out. But if you're offering us freedom, maybe you just turn a blind eye to what happens right now. Maybe we take off, maybe I give you what you want and then we hit the road."

After securing Safia's agreement to let the pigs go free, Mayor reveals critical intelligence about Dunko Guzman's activities. He explains that people show up with bags late at night — bags that smell good to pigs — and Dunko Guzman takes these bags and later gives them to other people. Mayor repeatedly emphasizes his discretion, saying "Look, I'm a pig. So you didn't hear this from me" before explicitly stating: "What I'm trying to tell you is that Gooseman is a smuggler."

Mayor shares a personal anecdote about wandering out of the stable one night and finding a bag full of endive, which he and the other pigs "went nuts on." He notes that "Gooseman was not happy" about this incident. Throughout the conversation, Mayor clarifies that this activity happens "late at night" and is "distinctly not the normal restaurant business or market activity."

When Safia confirms they have a deal, Mayor asks for verification, showing both his business acumen and slight uncertainty about trusting the arrangement. He expresses loyalty to his fellow pigs, stating: "I were for we. I got all the friends I need right here with my other pigs."

Session 3

After successfully negotiating freedom for the pigs in Session 2, Mayor continues to travel with the party during Session 3. Mayor forms a particular bond with Monster during this session, staying close to the cat throughout their adventures.

When the party becomes trapped in underground caverns, Mayor and the other pigs remain above ground in the forest. During this separation, Mayor demonstrates impressive survival instincts, foraging successfully on local vegetation. Upon the party's escape from the caverns, Mayor reunites with them in healthy condition. Mayor is observed eating flowers alongside Carl, having clearly thrived during the time apart: "Carl and Mayor, side by side, are eating some sort of flower."

Session 9

During Session 9, Mayor's name causes brief confusion when the party discusses the imprisoned civic leader of New Smoke. When the subject of rescuing New Smoke's mayor arises, Cat mistakenly believes the discussion concerns Mayor the pig rather than the town's former leader. After Vasso and Sucks clarify that they are discussing the civic leader rather than the pig, the party continues planning their reconnaissance of the Foundry.
