Investigation of Dunko's Apartment

Summary

During Session 2 of the campaign, the party conducted a thorough search of Dunko Guzman's ransacked apartment following their discovery of the break-in at the Pinecone Restaurant and Spa. The investigation yielded no sign of the missing book they sought, turning up only mundane household items including fiction books, clothing, and water jugs. When Monster attempted to use Hunt and Track to follow a mysterious boot print, the roll failed with a result of 4. Despite this mechanical failure, Monster successfully picked up the scent trail and led the party from the apartment window, across the street, and toward the Rex Tree.

Details

After securing the apartment, the party began searching for any sign of the stolen book. The Game Master confirmed that the search revealed only ordinary household items: "You don't find anything like that. Unfortunately. You find some books that are just like regular old. Like there's some fiction, regular old books." The apartment contained fiction books, clothing, and water jugs, but nothing connected to the theft.

Monster investigated a boot print left by the intruder and attempted to track it using the Hunt and Track move. The Game Master explained: "So that would be a hunt and track, which is a move we haven't seen yet. Be2d6 +wisdom to follow a trail of clues left behind by passing creatures." Monster rolled a 4, a clear failure. However, the tracking attempt still yielded narrative results: "Monster sniffs at the. The boot print and walks back like starts following it towards the window, hops up on the bed, which is under the windows, hops up on the window ledge and then walks out of the building just along the edge of the window."

The party followed Monster outside, where "you see monster has already hopped down to ground level and is walking like nose to ground towards the Rex tree just across the wideness of the square."

Before departing, the party organized their collected evidence. They decided that Vasso would carry everything in a bindle. The group debated leaving a receipt note for Dunko Guzman to explain what they had taken from the apartment, but ultimately chose not to disturb him during his massage at the spa. Vasso also took time to respectfully arrange one of the dead geese from the apartment to look like it was sleeping, and claimed another goose to prepare for dinner.
