Sniff Mask

Summary

The Sniff Mask (also referred to as the "Stiff Mask" by Brad) is a device that visualizes smells, functioning similarly to a heat sensor but for odors. In Session 7 of the campaign, the party carries this item and discusses deploying it to determine whether the Canal Entrance leads to a sewer. The concern centers on Goober, as exposure to sewage would contaminate the pumpkin and ruin the party's plans to make pumpkin pies.

Properties

The Sniff Mask operates as a smell visualization device, described as working "like a heat sensor" but for odors rather than temperature. When worn, it allows the user to see a visual representation of smells in their environment, making it possible to detect and assess sources of odor from a distance.

The mask is a portable item small enough to be carried in a sack. Its primary utility lies in remote assessment of air quality and contamination—particularly useful for determining whether an area contains sewage or other noxious substances before physical entry.

History

Session 7

Dayna's character carried the Sniff Mask in their sack during the session. When the party reached the Canal Entrance, they debated whether to use the device to check for sewage contamination. Vasso asked, "Should we put on the stiff mask to see if it goes somewhere smelly? Because I don't think we should take Goober to the sewer. Otherwise our pies are going to taste pretty weird."

The question of who should wear the mask became a matter of debate. Brad inquired about the mask's location, asking Sucks Benedict if he had urinated on it. Vasso suggested that whoever had urinated on something should be the one to wear the mask on their face. Dayna's character then recalled having the item: "Oh, you know what? It might be in my sack. Oh, yeah, Yeah. I think I've been carrying it. Sorry, guys. Here you go."
