Toxic Burning Goo

Summary

The Toxic Burning Goo is a dangerous, flammable substance resembling silly string that Sucks acquired from the Novelty Goods Shop Owner in Session 4 of the campaign. Stored in a spray paint-sized canister, the goo burns skin on contact and was supposed to be recalled and returned, though the shopkeeper still possessed inventory. Sucks obtained it by trading a liter of purple goo for what the shopkeeper described as "some kind of weapon" rather than useless Purple Goo. The substance proved instrumental when the party encountered The Ice Blob in the Misty Forest, where its extreme flammability became immediately apparent.

Properties

The burning goo is housed in a canister and can be sprayed in patterns, functioning similarly to silly string but with far more dangerous properties. On contact with skin, it causes burns. When ignited, the substance produces massive bursts of flame capable of dealing significant damage—Cat took 3 HP of damage when caught in a blast. The goo successfully burns away mist when lit, creating temporary visibility in foggy conditions, though the flame dies out relatively quickly. The substance is extremely flammable, more so than Sucks initially expected.

The Novelty Goods Shopkeeper provided extensive safety warnings with the purchase: don't spray it near eyes, mouth, or nose; don't breathe when spraying; don't listen to it when spraying; don't use while pregnant; and crucially, don't tell anyone where it came from. The user must keep their hand on the trigger at all times. The shopkeeper, desperate to eliminate liability, suggested that Sucks use the goo on anyone who asks where he obtained it.

History

Session 4

Sucks acquired the Toxic Burning Goo through a goo-for-goo exchange at a novelty goods shop. The Novelty Goods Shop Owner, concerned about the toxic burning goo's liability, traded it for Sucks's liter of Purple Goo. As Sucks noted, "You just traded a useless purple goo for some kind of weapon." Before the transaction concluded, the shopkeeper delivered comprehensive warnings about the substance's hazardous properties and insisted that Sucks never reveal its source.

Later in the session, when the party encountered The Ice Blob in the Misty Forest, Sucks deployed the burning goo tactically. He sprayed a circle around the party and ignited it, creating a defensive perimeter. The result exceeded his expectations: "And it goes up in a huge puff of flame." Unfortunately, Cat was caught in the blast and rolled a D6 for damage. After the explosion, Sucks warned his companions: "Watch out. It's more flammable than I expected." The burning goo demonstrated its utility against the mist, as it "does have the quality of burning away of the mist very quickly for a second," providing brief visibility in the foggy conditions.
