Rextree Campaign V2wiki

The Frozen Forest

Summary

The Frozen Forest is a sparse woodland located to the west of the party's travel route in Session 4 of the campaign. The forest runs parallel to The Frozen Waterfall and serves as a critical location where the party witnesses the freezing phenomenon occurring in real-time. When Vasso observes a tree deeper within the forest freeze before his eyes—ice climbing in spikes from unbelievable cold—the forest provides the party with undeniable proof that they are approaching the source of the environmental disaster. The forest is connected to Brextree and contains either the source or the path of whatever force is causing the widespread freezing.

Description

The Frozen Forest stretches off into the distance on the western side of the party's route. Unlike a dense woodland, this forest is sparse, with enough space between trees to see movement and changes occurring within. The forest runs alongside the party's path, maintaining a presence in the western direction throughout their journey toward Brextree.

The most striking feature of the forest is its active transformation. The freezing does not merely affect the edges—trees deeper within the forest succumb to the extreme cold. When a tree freezes, ice climbs the trunk and branches in sharp, unnatural spikes, creating jagged formations that speak to temperatures far beyond ordinary winter cold.

History

Session 4

During the party's approach to The Frozen Waterfall, the forest maintains a constant presence on their left hand side. The Frozen Waterfall itself emerges from this sparse forest, establishing the geographical connection between the two locations.

While scanning the area for potential threats, Vasso witnesses direct evidence of the ongoing catastrophe. A tree not on the forest's edge, but deeper within, freezes right before his eyes. Ice begins climbing the tree in spike formations, demonstrating the unbelievable intensity of the cold affecting the region. This moment transforms the forest from a passive landmark into active proof that the party is close to whatever is causing the environmental devastation.

The forest's connection to Brextree remains significant, as the waterfall that runs from this sparse woodland points toward the settlement's location in the western direction.

Notable Features

  • Active Freezing Zone — Trees within the forest freeze in real-time, not just at the edges but deeper within the woodland
  • Spike Ice Formation — Ice climbs affected trees in sharp, unnatural spike patterns rather than ordinary frost
  • Sparse Layout — The forest's open structure allows for visibility and observation of events occurring within
  • Western Position — Located consistently on the western/left side of the party's travel route
  • Connection to The Frozen Waterfall — The frozen waterfall originates from within this forest
  • Proximity to Brextree — The forest lies along the path or contains elements connected to the settlement
