Discovery of the hidden compartment and evidence
Summary
In Session 2 of the campaign, Safia conducted a thorough investigation of Dunko Guzman's ransacked apartment following the party's encounter with aggressive geese. Using her discern realities move, Safia rolled a 10, earning three questions to uncover critical evidence about the break-in. The investigation revealed a distinctive yellow mud boot print, traced it back to an open window entry point, and ultimately led to the discovery of The hidden wall compartment containing The bag of coins and other valuable items. This breakthrough provided the party with their first physical evidence of the intruder and potential leads for tracking them down.
Details
After dealing with the goose combat in Dunko Guzman's apartment, Safia began investigating the feather and blood-covered room. Her successful discern realities roll (10+) allowed her to ask three questions about the scene.
During her investigation, Safia discovered a crucial piece of evidence: "You find in one corner of the room, like on the edge of a carpet, half of what looks to be like a boot print, but it was left by boots that had recently been in, like, very thin, thick mud." The print was distinctive—not the typical brown mud one might expect. As the GM described: "So there's this like, very. It's not like brown mud. It's more like a light, like, yellow mud. And it's very, very noticeably different."
Using her questions strategically, Safia traced the boot print backward to determine the intruder's path of movement. The evidence showed "It looks like whoever left that print actually came in through the window, perhaps leaving it open, which is probably how the geese got in." The intruder had moved directly to a specific section of blank wall before departing the same way they entered.
Examining the wall more closely, Safia spotted an irregularity: "You notice a little seam in between two boards that doesn't look like the natural seam of a piece of wood. And if you press into it, it comes loose from the wall and reveals a little alcove hidden behind it." The hidden wall compartment was approximately the size of a middle school locker.
Inside the compartment, Safia found The bag of coins containing substantial wealth: "It's full of coins. Beautiful shining gold coins. And also silver and also copper." The GM clarified the amount: "And it's about, like. It's. Like. Like 250 coins." Among the denominations were gold, silver, copper, and what was described as "an even shinier silver." Safia's AI component automatically scanned and counted the coins. The compartment also contained a knife in a sheath and various other sundry items.
Participants
- Safia — Conducted the investigation using discern realities, discovered The mysterious boot print, traced the intruder's path, and found The hidden wall compartment
- Monster — Suggested as having potential Hunt ability to track whoever left the distinctive yellow mud footprint
- Katniss — Present during the investigation
- Dunko Guzman — Owner of the ransacked apartment and the hidden compartment (absent)
Consequences
- The party obtained approximately 250 coins in various denominations (gold, silver, copper, and a shinier silver variety), representing significant wealth.
- The mysterious boot print with distinctive light yellow mud provided a trackable clue—the party theorized that Monster could potentially use his Hunt ability to follow this trail.
- The party developed a theory that the missing book might be Dunko's smuggling records, explaining why someone would break in to steal it.
- The discovery explained how the geese entered the apartment—through the window left open by the intruder.
- The party now had physical evidence linking the break-in to a specific individual with distinctive footwear and access to unusual yellow mud.
- A knife in a sheath and other sundry items were recovered from the hidden compartment.
