Vasso's Circlet
Summary
Vasso's Circlet is a spiritually significant item worn by Vasso, described as being made of abraded leaves and sticks woven together. The circlet represents Vasso's connection to mother earth and spiritual beliefs, and Vasso is deeply attached to it, expressing uncertainty about what would happen if it were removed. In Session 3, the circlet becomes a point of spiritual conflict when it prevents Vasso from using The Dog Mask's synesthesia technology during an escape attempt.
Properties
The circlet is constructed from natural materials—leaves and sticks that have been abraded and woven together. It is worn in Vasso's hair and sits on Vasso's head in a manner that creates physical interference with other headwear, particularly The Dog Mask.
The circlet's spiritual properties are not fully known, even to Vasso. When asked about removing it, Vasso states: "I don't know if I would actually take it off because my thing." This uncertainty about the consequences of removal suggests the circlet may serve as a spiritual anchor or protective element tied to Vasso's relationship with mother earth.
Mechanically, the circlet prevents proper contact points when Vasso attempts to wear The Dog Mask over it. The mask's technology fails to activate because it needs to connect at specific points on the wearer's face. When Vasso tries to use the mask with the circlet in place, the result is complete failure—the wearer cannot see through the mask's eyes and the synesthesia effect does not engage.
History
Session 3
During the escape attempt, the circlet creates a practical problem when Vasso needs to use The Dog Mask. The group discusses whether Vasso would be willing to remove the circlet for the mask to function properly. Vasso acknowledges spiritual attachment to the item, noting uncertainty about the consequences of removal.
When questioned about the circlet's spiritual significance, someone observes: "If you don't think that's something that Vasso is willing to do spiritually." Vasso reflects on the compromises already made: "I mean, I feel like he's given up a lot of his." This suggests the circlet represents one of the few remaining connections to Vasso's spiritual practices.
The technical incompatibility is explained clearly: if the mask is put on without removing the circlet, "it doesn't, like, connect at all the points. It needs to connect at it just like, you can't see through the eyes." This makes wearing both items simultaneously impossible, forcing Vasso to choose between spiritual integrity and practical utility.
Session 6
In Session 6, the circlet is referenced during Sucks's demonstration to Vasso about the nature of lies. Sucks uses the circlet as a prop in his teaching moment, offering the compliment: "Wow, that circlet in your hair, it really brings out your eyes." This statement serves as Sucks's example of how lies can function as social pleasantries that make people feel good, rather than being inherently harmful. The interaction highlights the circlet as a physical feature of Vasso's appearance and its role in a broader conversation about honesty and social interaction.
Episode: "Session 10"
When Vasso was captured and imprisoned by the Thunder Hogs, the guards conducted a search and confiscated his weapons. However, they overlooked the circlet, allowing Vasso to retain it during his confinement. As Dayna's player specified while running the session: "They don't take your circlet, but they take, like, your weapons." The circlet was treated similarly to Vasso's Gold Sneakers with Wings—another item the Thunder Hogs failed to recognize as significant or valuable during their search. This oversight left Vasso with the spiritually important item despite his imprisonment, suggesting the circlet's true nature or significance was not immediately apparent to his captors.
