Luring the Blob Back to the Cart

Summary

In Session 4, after discovering The Blob's food-replication capabilities, the party devises a plan to lure the creature back to their cart. Cat constructs a makeshift fishing-line leash using popcorn tied to string from adventure gear, while Sucks uses the Walkman to provide musical accompaniment. During the approximately 15-20 minute journey, the party discovers that The Blob functions as a food printer—consuming materials and producing apples with flavors matching whatever it has absorbed. The blob shrinks from roughly 4 feet in diameter to microwave-size (about 2 feet) as it produces food throughout the process.

Details

The luring operation begins with Cat fashioning a leash from popcorn and string, though concern quickly arises that The Blob might simply disintegrate the material. As Cat notes: "cat is now worried that it's. It's just going to disintegrate the string." Despite these concerns, the method proves effective. "Guys, it's working," someone confirms as the blob begins following the trail.

The party travels together with distinct roles: Sucks leaves a popcorn trail while attempting to convince The Blob to transform into a monkey, Vasso holds onto Sucks's shirt to avoid getting lost, and Safia periodically checks on the blob's progress. Music from Sucks's Walkman serves as an additional lure, with the blob appearing responsive to both the sound and the food trail.

Several minutes into the journey, a critical discovery occurs: "After a few, like, minutes into trying to lure it back, you notice that it rolls over a patch as it's like, trying to get this string. And then as it rolls away on the ground is an apple that looks very similar to yours." Sucks takes a bite and discovers it tastes like cheesy popcorn rather than apple.

This leads to Sucks's realization: "Guys, I think this is a printer." The theory proves accurate—"Whatever you throw in it, like, whatever it disassembles, food comes out."

The party conducts systematic experiments feeding The Blob various materials. The sequence of flavors produced tracks the blob's consumption: first cheesy popcorn-flavored apples, then plain popcorn, then burnt plastic, and finally completely tasteless apples. Each food production causes the blob to shrink incrementally.

Safia carves one of the tasteless apples into a pipe using Halfling Pipe Leaf. Cat attempts to convince Vasso that The Blob is what a raccoon looks like, while Sucks continues efforts to get the blob to transform into a monkey while eating an apple.
