Safia Steals the Keys
Summary
In Session 10, Safia executed a daring theft while still transformed into rat form, stealing a key ring from one of the Thunder Hogs guarding Sucks and Vasso's prison cell. Rolling a 7 on her Defy Danger check, Safia faced a choice between grabbing the keys while being noticed or taking something else undetected. Choosing to take the keys despite the risk, she ran up the guard's leg and bit onto the key ring hanging from his belt. The guard struck her, knocking both Safia and the keys to the ground, but she quickly grabbed the ring again and fled into the shadows with both Thunder Hogs in close pursuit.
The successful theft provided the party with the means to rescue their imprisoned companions, though Safia now faced immediate danger from the pursuing guards and her imminent transformation back to human form.
Details
The theft occurred in the Underground Tunnels Beneath New Smoke while Safia was still in rat form. Cat, who had been following at a safe distance using their Hunt and Track ability, witnessed the entire sequence unfold.
When Safia attempted to grab the key ring, she rolled a 7 on her Defy Danger check. The partial success presented her with a choice: grab the keys but be noticed, or grab something else without detection. Safia chose to take the keys.
She ran up the Thunder Hog guard's leg—he was wearing dirty jeans with holes in them—and chomped onto the key ring hanging from his belt. The guard looked down and exclaimed:
"What the fuck?"
He slapped Safia, and the impact knocked both her and the key ring to the ground. The keys came off his belt when he hit her, smacking the ring right out of her mouth. Safia hit the ground but immediately grabbed the keys again and started running toward the shadows and hallway.
Both Thunder Hogs immediately gave chase. Cat, positioned at a safe distance, observed Safia get smacked to the ground with the keyring and then flee with the guards in close pursuit.
The theft succeeded in securing the keys needed to free Sucks and Vasso, but Safia was now in active danger, being chased through the tunnels while holding her final transformation hold—which meant she would soon revert to human form.
