Summary

The Technologically-Enhanced Halberd is a hybrid weapon purchased by Safia from Big Grimbo during Session 8 of the campaign. While Safia's AI companion can identify the circuitry running through the weapon, neither can determine what purpose the technological components serve.

Properties

The halberd features both a spike and an axe head mounted on a staff. According to Big Grimbo, the weapon represents his own craftsmanship—he claims to have created it by combining two separate items into a single, superior piece.

The staff contains visible circuitry running through its length, which Safia's AI recognizes as technological in nature but cannot analyze further to determine its function or capabilities. Despite its appearance, the staff is not made of wood, though the actual material remains unknown. When Safia handles the weapon, she feels a "slight tingle at certain points of contact" between her hand and the material, indicating the presence of active technological systems.

The circuitry does not respond to Safia's initial attempts at activation. She experiments with the staff by moving it around in a dance-like manner and pressing on various points, trying to locate activation contacts or interfaces, but the halberd's systems remain inactive and unexplained.

The weapon's visible technology draws cautious reactions from bystanders. When Safia experiments with it publicly, a passerby comments "I'm not gonna touch that," suggesting the circuitry makes others wary of the device.

History

Session 8

Safia encounters the halberd while shopping at Big Grimbo's establishment during Session 8. The weapon is described as having "a spike and an axe head on it, but it looks like the head itself was attached to a staff that they found." When Safia's AI examines it, the companion recognizes circuitry running through the weapon but reports, "You have no idea what it does, though."

Big Grimbo takes pride in the craftsmanship, stating: "This is great work. I did this. Did this work myself. I took two things and then I put them together and it made it one better thing." Safia purchases the weapon for 9 coins plus a bag of weed.

After acquiring the weapon, she showed it to Vasso, saying "check out this cool staff I got." Safia then began investigating the halberd's properties, attempting to activate its circuitry through various methods. She moved the staff around in a dance-like manner and pressed on different points, searching for activation contacts. When she rolled Discern Realities to examine the weapon more carefully, she discovered that despite its appearance, the staff was not made of wood. She also detected a "slight tingle at certain points of contact" between her hand and the material.

The investigation proved frustrating when Safia's AI failed to identify the technology, leaving the halberd's technological nature mysterious and unexplained by the end of the session.
