Sucks's Smoking Mishap

Summary

In Session 3 of the campaign, Sucks attempts to smoke a cigarette from a pack found on the ritual altar in order to look cool, despite having no prior experience with smoking. The mishap unfolds when Sucks lights the sacred tobacco in the enclosed underground space and immediately collapses into a prolonged, violent coughing fit. The coughing becomes so severe that Sucks feels something pop inside, resulting in a debility to Constitution. The incident has two notable effects: it triggers Safia's trauma related to mutants from her past, and it temporarily eliminates Sucks's characteristic horniness, leaving the character disturbed by the unfamiliar clarity.

Details

While the party remains in the underground space, Sucks discovers a pack of cigarettes at the ritual altar. Deciding to smoke one to appear cool despite never having done so before, Sucks states: "I found a pack of smokes on the ground and I wanted to light it to be cool, but I've never smoked before."

As Sucks lights the sacred tobacco, the character begins discussing knowledge about shapeshifting and how it works. Almost immediately, Sucks collapses into severe coughing. The coughing continues far longer than expected—each time it seems to subside, it starts again. The GM describes the physical toll: "Constitution, because you're just. Your body is racked. You. You feel something. Something pop inside you. You're coughing so hard. It goes on for a long time."

The extended coughing fit triggers a traumatic response in Safia. The sound reminds her of mutants from her past who would cough in the same way because they could not breathe properly. According to Safia's recollection, many of these mutants smoked with a fatalistic attitude: "A lot of them smoke because they were like, why not? We're gonna die anyway."

An unexpected consequence emerges: for the first time in a long while, Sucks is not horny. The character experiences this absence like relief from pain, comparing it to how the disappearance of a headache feels pleasurable. However, Sucks finds the clarity deeply uncomfortable, telling the group: "Whoa guys, I feel so lame. I've never felt more clear headed in my life. I hate it."
