Wooden Limb
Summary
The Wooden Limb is a magical item discovered in the swineherd's house during Session 10 of the campaign. Originally an ordinary wooden stick, it became a functional additional limb after bonding with a character who slipped in the Purple Goo while pretending to be an old man with diarrhea. The limb can now be removed and reattached at will, functioning as a prosthetic that responds to its wearer's intent. Vasso identified the craftsmanship as similar to the work of the Carvers, a specialized group within the Cult of the Earth Mother who possess the knowledge to create limbs from living wood.
Properties
The Wooden Limb began as a simple wooden stick found inside the swineherd's house. Upon contact with the Purple Goo, the stick underwent a transformation and attached itself to the character's body, becoming a fully functional additional limb. The Game Master described the transformation: "You were walking with a stick that you found, and you slipped in the goo, and the stick attached itself to your body and became a limb."
The limb functions as a working appendage that the wearer can control. While initially bonded permanently to the character, the Game Master later clarified its properties: "And you, Abdul, sounded really uncomfortable with it, so I gave you an out. So now you could take it off and put it on whenever you want." This modification allows the limb to be removed and reattached as needed, making it a versatile piece of equipment rather than a permanent body modification.
According to Vasso's expertise, the limb shares characteristics with creations made by the Carvers. Vasso explained: "There is a group of people in the cult of the Earth Mother called Carvers, who can make limbs from living wood." This suggests the limb is constructed from living wood through magical craftsmanship, though whether it was intentionally created by the Carvers or emerged from the interaction with the Purple Goo remains unclear.
History
Session 10
The Wooden Limb was discovered when the party explored the swineherd's house during Session 10. A character found the wooden stick inside the building and began using it as a walking aid while adopting a disguise as an elderly person suffering from diarrhea.
The transformation occurred when the character slipped in the Purple Goo that had been spread throughout the area. The stick made contact with both the character and the goo, triggering a magical reaction that fused the wood to the character's body as a functional limb.
After the initial bonding, the Game Master adjusted the item's properties to address player concerns about the permanent nature of the attachment. The limb was modified to allow voluntary removal and reattachment, giving the character control over when to use the additional appendage.
Vasso recognized the limb's construction during the session, connecting it to the specialized work of the Carvers within the Cult of the Earth Mother. This identification provided context for understanding the item's magical properties and its connection to the cult's practices of crafting functional limbs from living wood.
