Safia's Rat Infiltration

Summary

During Session 9 of the campaign, Safia attempted to infiltrate the Guard Storage Shed by shapeshifting into a rat and riding on Monster's back. When the party needed reconnaissance inside the mysterious shed, Safia proposed using her shapeshift ability to enter as the guard opened the door. She rolled a 7 on her shapeshift move, gaining only 1 hold—a partial success that would create complications once inside.

As the guard rushed into the shed to respond to Sucks's transformation crisis, Safia in rat form and Monster raced toward the entrance and successfully squeaked inside just as the door closed. However, the 7-9 result meant Safia would transform back into a person once inside rather than remaining safely in rat form, and Cat lost control of Monster's actions within the building. The infiltration succeeded in getting assets inside the shed, but at significant cost to control and safety.

Details

The situation began when Safia wanted to "creep up and look in the house" when the guard opened the door to the outbuilding. She asked, "Could this be a good time to be a rat?" and despite potential complications, declared, "Okay, well, I really want to be a rat."

Cat coordinated with Safia's plan, sending Monster to carry Safia in her diminutive rat form. When Safia successfully transformed, she "jumps on monster's back. She's so excited" about the infiltration plan.

The timing proved critical. As the guard threw open the shed door and rushed inside to deal with the crisis involving Sucks, Safia and Monster made their move. "They race towards the door as the guard throws it open and rushes inside. And you squeak in just as they're closing it."

However, Shawn explained the consequences of the partial success: "The cat, you realize the 7 to 9 on that is that you are no longer in control of monsters actions or even really aware of monsters actions as they are now in the shed." This meant Cat lost their connection to Monster once inside, leaving Safia without her planned mount and support.
